We are Nathan and Shandra McCracken, a husband-and-wife home remodeling team with over 20 years in construction and an eye for detail.
We are ambitious and devoted to helping you invest in your life through your home. It is genuinely our pleasure to meet you, build a relationship, and provide excellence in construction.
Nathan
Owner, Licensed Contractor
Nathan has been in construction for over 20 years. He began by building decks, followed by supervising home building, new home warranties, a high-end finish carpentry crew where his woodworking skills were honed, and finally, forming his own contracting company in 2011.

He approaches building with the eye of a finish carpenter, wanting to ensure the homeowner is proud of their home as a whole and up close. It’s important to him to come to meetings prepared with the home’s building history and to be ready to discuss efficient ways for the homeowner to achieve their goals.
He appreciates partnering with others who share the same building goals and create a respectful and friendly work environment.
Shandra
Owner, Administrator
Shandra grew up in the home-building industry and used to dream of planning homes. Her first job was cleaning new construction homes, and she fell in love with the anticipation of seeing which floorplans and fixtures the homeowner had chosen. So, she is thrilled to be working alongside her contractor husband.

Shandra works in the office, managing the day-to-day correspondence with clients and assisting them in their design choices. It’s important to her that homeowners create the space they love, and she approaches each project with detail.
In addition to office work, she writes a Tuesday email for subscribers interested in remodeling and keeps the blog updated with helpful articles.
Why the name Dovetail?
We thought very seriously about what to name our company. We wanted a name that represented the values and meanings dear to us. So when it came time to decide, we chose a name based on strength, craft, comfort, and peace.​
The dovetail joint is one of the strongest and withstanding joints a woodworker can craft. A dove carrying an olive branch represents extending comfort, hope, and peace. These symbols are close to our hearts, and we wish to extend these qualities to you.
